"Disconnected"
Done on watercolour paper with watercolour and ink pens.
This piece started as a gift for a good friend of mine. The buildings are from downtown Singapore, and soon this is what the piece started to be about. Moving onto university and living in such an international setting sometimes makes us feel disconnected from everything around us. |
"Dancing Squids"Dancing Squids is a quilt and fabric paint piece based on the tessellations created by M. C Escher. All fabric is cotton based. The stitching is done by machine.
I started this project when I discovered the world of tessellations from my grandfather. Little did I know it would be the most frustrating piece yet taking 3 weeks. I'm really happy with how it turned out, the bright colours look great on a wall. Besides, it's a piece about squids, how cannot it not be great? |
"Float"
Done on watercolour paper with watercolour, ink pens and black wool.
Float was a piece inspired by the relationship between a mother whale and her calf. Whale calfs when born cannot yet control how they float, yet must float to the surface to breathe every few minutes. Thus, the mother whale will allow the calf to remain above her, so that she may push the calf above the surface so they may breathe. The piece represents the lengths that mothers will go to out of love. |
"Stalemate"
Acrylic on stretched canvas.
This piece was inspired by a National Geographic article I read titled "The Age of Disbelief". The article described how the two main points concerning the beginning of the universe are now so controversial and debated that many don't know what to really believe anymore. The game of Christian Creation and Evolutionary Theory has come to a point where there are no more moves..it is a stalemate. |
"Exile"
Graphite, Charcoal Powder and Pastel
The white Rhinos of Indonesia are endangered greatly due to loss of habitat. This piece conveys the exile that these rhinos, among other endangered creatures across the globe have face, the exile from their own home. This is due to the influx of human population, resulting in new cities, and towns and villages being built, occupying space that was once the animals. |
"Desert Girl"
"Starry-Eyed"
Watercolour, acrylic paint, and ink
As a small child, I remember watching the stars as they shone over the Wellington Harbour. In India, while without electricity, I remember sleeping underneath that blanket of twinkling lights. Amazed by their wonder, I constructed this piece around them, while including one of my favourite animals, a wolf. See if you can identify the constellations, and name the one's I created. |
